Third Street
With NYC's largest youth orchestra program, Third Street brings young instrumentalists together for inclusive, ensemble-based music-making in a friendly environment. With seven youth orchestras, virtually all young musicians will find the right place for themselves to create beautiful music with their peers.
Overture Orchestra
Designed as a "first" experience in ensemble playing! Playing solo repertoire is completely different from playing an independent part in an ensemble. In Overture, under the tutelage of Steven Rochen, students learn to follow a conductor and develop leadership skills within the group; increasing independence, reading skills, and aural/visual coordination.
Repertoire Level: Completion of Suzuki Book 1 with entry into Book 2
Schedule: Saturdays at 9:30am or Sundays at 10am

Fall 2024 video auditions are due by June 20. Returning students staying in their current orchestra for 2024-25 do not need to re-audition.

ISO at Third Street Carnegie Hill
Beginner/Intermediate Orchestra
Carnegie Hill brings young instrumentalists, professional section coaches, expert conductors, and exceptional concert experiences together for an exciting and impactful introduction to the orchestral experience.
Repertoire Level: Typical repertoire level – NYSSMA level 3-4
Schedule: Sundays at 10am

Con Spirito Orchestra
Beginner/Intermediate String Orchestra
Building on the foundational skills learned in Overture, Con Spirito students enjoy playing the repertoire of many styles and traditions. The group focuses on advanced bowing skills, the ability to play independent musical lines and dynamic interpretation.
Repertoire Level: Completion of Suzuki Book 3 (violin, viola, cello) and Book 2 (bass)
Schedule: Saturdays at 10:30am

Sinfonia Orchestra
Intermediate/Advanced String Orchestra
In this strings-only group directed by Steven Rochen, students learn more advanced repertoire - from the renaissance to contemporary styles and original pieces. Students gain increased skill in sight-reading as we employ more advanced rehearsal techniques, music theory concepts, and practicing strategies.
Repertoire Level: Completion of Suzuki Book 4 (violin, viola, cello) and Book 3 (bass)
Schedule: Saturdays at 11:30am

Advanced Orchestra
As the Saturday Orchestras’ most advanced ensemble, the Philharmonia dives deep into professional-level repertoire, under conductor Eric Mahl. Open to musicians of all ages and instruments, it provides an immersive, full orchestra experience.
